Default Necro DMG question

ok, so i just started to use this N/E build that focuses on the E skill Discord, its death magic so is it Cold or shadow DMG? I ask this because when i fight warriors in pvp i do 79 dmg, just like the skill says im supposed to do so i figured its shadow otherwise it would only fo like 40 to a warrior. but then i used it on a mesmer and only struck for 48?! so i thought ok cold dmg but then shouldnt it be 79 dmg to mesmer and 48 to the warrior? IDK its getting me angry... plz help

i dont know specifically about discord, but id bet shadow dmg. heres my logic:

1: you hit the warrior for full dmg, so i think you can be pretty sure its not armor dependent.
2: id account the 48 done to the mesmer to prot spirit possibly. mayber shelter, but prot spirit would be much more prevalent.

that would be my bet.

like was previously said, probably prot spirt from an outside caster or something along those lines, possibly a rit spirit.

discord does the same amount of spell damage to all armor levels (you can check that for yourself in isle of the nameless)

both times you got a target struck for less, that was most likely because of stuff like prot spirit or shelter.

its untyped (and therefore) armor ignoring damage. not shadow or cold, just 'damage'. Ele at least is easy as they have stoneflesh aura for big -damage(like up to -33). mesmer likely prot spirit as mentioned above.
